LENT CANA East Newsletter

Bishop Julian Dobbs on…
the season of Lent and the invitation of Jesus
Lent is a time of penitence, fasting and prayer, in preparation for the great Feast of the Resurrection. And as we journey through these forty days, we do so by hearing and answering our Savior’s call.

Christian deaths are spiraling in Nigeria as militant Fulani herdsmen and Boko Haram terrorists escalate their attacks, according to reports from religious liberty watchdog groups.
Almighty God, who seest that we have no power of ourselves to help ourselves: Keep us both outwardly in our bodies, and inwardly in our souls; that we may be defended from all adversities which may happen to the body, and from all evil thoughts which may assault and hurt the soul; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
[Book of Common Prayer 1662]

Lent Reading?
Consider:  The Forgotten Cross:
Some Neglected Aspects of the Cross of Christ (2015)

This is a short book of expositions from the Bible, examining the cross and… success (1 Corinthians 1), service (Mark 10:32-45), suffering (1 Peter 212-25), separation (Ephesians 2:11-22), sanctification (Titus 2:1-15), and supremacy (Colossians 2:6-23)… while many have been preoccupied fighting battles over penal substitutionary atonement, we have often neglected other vital aspects of the death of Jesus.
CANA East believes in prayer
May my prayer be set before you like incense; may the lifting up of my hands be like the evening sacrifice. ( Psalm 141:2)

Katartismos Global is a 501[C]3 organization that exists to equip the Church for mission and ministry.

Writing to the Christians in Ephesus in chapter 4 the Apostle Paul writes gifts are given to the church by its Lord and Head to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ, until all of us come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to maturity, to the measure of the full stature of Christ.  Ephesians 4, 12, 13.

Jesus still says, “GO”

World Mission Sunday February 10, 2019

Greetings the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Our Lord Jesus Christ commissioned his disciples to go and proclaim the gospel. This was His commission then and it is still His commission to us noEastSeal.orangew! People in our communities, nation and world are all in desperate need of knowing the love of God and the forgiveness of their sins. Alongside this commission, our mission includes serving those in need and protecting every human life (born and unborn).

God has given us the wonderful responsibility to be salt to the earth and light to the world.Christians are those who can impact their communities and the world more than anyone else because we have been entrusted with the message of Jesus Christ, crucified, risen and coming again.

This year’s mission conference and synod ‘Together in the Harvest’ (May 16-18) will help to equip us in this mission to the world. I hope to see many of you there.

On this Sunday, when we consider our mission to the world, let us rededicate ourselves to the mission to which we have all been called and make known the good news of Jesus through word and deed. And he said to them, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few. Therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest. Luke 10:2

Jesus still says, ‘go’.

Holy Innocents

The Holy Innocents | Anglicans For Life

December 28, 2018
“A voice was heard in Ramah,
wailing and loud lamentation,
Rachel weeping for her children;
she refused to be consoled, because they are no more.”  Matthew 2:18

Friday December 28, 2018 is The Feast of The Holy Innocents when the Church recalls the courage the Holy Family who escaped Bethlehem for Egypt as Herod gave the decree to massacre the Holy Innocents who are considered by some to be the first Christian martyrs.

Many Christians today are still fleeing their homes and churches. Hundreds of thousands of displaced Christians across numerous countries are without adequate food or proper shelter. In Nigeria just under 2 million people are internally displaced as a result of religious violence.

Please pray for these our suffering brothers and sisters who are enduring so many modern day atrocities as a result of their faith in Jesus Christ.  The Apostle Paul writes, “And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up. So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith.”  Galatians chapter 6

On this day of memorial, let us pause and reflect that every human life, including  the  lives of unborn children, are uniquely important and precious to God and loved by Him.  I commend to you the ministry of Anglicans for Life, a Christ-centered ministry that upholds Biblical principles concerning the sacredness of human life.

Lord willing, Brenda and I will participating in the National March for Life and the events connected to the Anglican Summit 2019 in Virginia.

Almighty God, our Father, you who have given us life and intended us to have it forever, grant us your blessings. Enlighten our minds to an awareness and to a renewed conviction that all human life is sacred because it is created in your image and likeness.  Help us to teach by word and the example of our lives that human life is precious because it is the gift of God whose love is infinite.  In Jesus name we pray.  Amen

Church of Nigeria Bishops…

The bishops of The Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion) speak about Lambeth 2020

September 2018

The House of Bishops of the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion) unanimously agree to the following statement regarding Lambeth 2020.

The House of Bishops of the Church of Nigeria reaffirm the Statement of GAFCON 2018 that the Archbishop of Canterbury should invite as full members to Lambeth 2020 the Bishops of the Province of the Anglican Church in North America and the Province of the Anglican Church in Brazil, and that he should not invite those Provinces that have endorsed by word or deed sexual practices that are in contradiction to the teaching of Scripture and Resolution 1.10 of the 1998 Lambeth Conference, unless they have repented of their actions and reversed their decisions.

In the event that this does not occur the Bishops of the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion) unanimously resolved that they will decline any invitation to attend Lambeth 2020 and all other meetings of the Instruments of the Communion.
